iRead competition is one of the Center’s cultural initiatives that celebrates readers and knowledge enthusiasts. In its first year in 2013, the competition targeted the youth of the Eastern Province, expanding its second year to include all the provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the third year in 2015 it included participations from Saudi Arabia’s residents. The number of participations in the competition in the year 2016 reached over 14,000.
The competition has two parts:
The Reader of the Year competition targets the students of the preparatory, secondary, and college level. Participants submit reviews of books of their choice that tell their inspiring experience with reading. The submissions are then shortlisted and the finalists take part in the iRead Enriching Gathering which offers cultural lectures, creative workshops, and hands-on courses where they prepare their presentations for the closing ceremony. They explore and research a theme of their choice through many sources in order to present it during the closing ceremony in a creative way.
This competition targets photographers in the Kingdom in order to promote the culture and beauty of reading through artistic and creative photography.
