Kuwait’s national day celebrations were echoed in the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom’s airports bore the colors of Kuwait’s national flag, and many of the Kingdom’s facilities featured festive decorations to share Kuwait’s national celebrations. King Khalid Airport in Riyadh was decorated with the flags of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, along with portraits of His Royal Highness Amir Shaykh Sabah Al-Ahmad and His Majesty the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz. Travelers coming from Kuwait were received with gifts, flowers, and balloons in celebration of the occasion. Shuttle buses carrying passengers of planes bound to Kuwait were also decorated. A number of facilities in the Kingdom broadcast video footage of Kuwait’s national holiday celebrations, including a speech by late Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz where he stressed the interlocked destiny of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion. There were also videos of a speech by His Royal Highness Amir Shaykh Sabah Al-Ahmad affirming the bonds between the two countries. King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) projected the colors of the Kuwaiti flag to celebrate Kuwait’s independence festivities. This gesture was featured at one of Saudi Arabia’s most spectacular architectural landmarks, which is an initiative of Saudi Aramco, to underline the deep-rooted relations between the two countries.
